Why use a safety shower?
The safety shower is designed to enable a contaminated person to quickly rinse the skin, face or eyes to eliminate corrosive or flammable substances thanks to its antiseptic action.
They are often used in laboratories, industrial sites and work areas where chemicals or aggressive agents are handled (powders, dusts, aerosols, liquids, gases or vapors with chemical hazards).
Indeed, the French Labor Code R. 232-1-6 states that: "Workplaces are equipped with first-aid equipment that is appropriate to the nature of the risks and easily accessible". In an emergency, safety showers are essential for first aid treatment.
Two categories can be distinguished, both of which must comply with standard EN 15154 :
Portable safety shower :
The portable shower is designed to cool and clean victims of thermal or chemical burns. It contains a biosourced active agent that prevents the development of bacteria and microbes in the water used, to limit the risk of contamination for victims. Adapted from a fire extinguisher, it can be distinguished from the latter by its green color and specific bent cane. However, it is self-contained and easy to move around.

Fixed safety shower :
They are also used to rinse the body after spraying a chemical or hazardous product.
Wall-mounted safety showers feature a ceiling-mounted shower head and a handle to activate the water flow.
Column safety showers are designed to be free-standing, with knob and pull cord for quick and easy visibility.
Showers combined with an eyewash station also enable simultaneous rinsing of both eyes. Their installation is preferable where there is a chemical risk to the eyes.
The rinsing time should be at least 15 minutes, and the temperature of the water or rinsing liquid between 15 and 25°C.
How do I use a portable or fixed safety shower?

Portable showers :
Portable safety showers are generally equipped with a water supply, a spray mechanism and a CO2 cartridge to pressurize the unit and provide a continuous, abundant flow of water. The angled cane enables precise, easy handling by the user.

Wall, column and combination showers :
Simply stand under the shower and pull the handle to activate the water flow connected to the mains water supply.
